Hour of Code is a global initiative that takes place the first week of December. The goal of this initiative is to teach students the basic concepts of computer science in fun, engaging ways. In today's society, computer literacy is becoming more and more important. Whether or not the student decides to follow a career path in computer science, all students deserve the opportunity to learn and explore what it is all about.
Hour of Code provides over 20 different tutorials in over 30 languages to teach computer science concepts. These lessons are self guided, so students can learn at their own pace. This also means that whoever is helping them can be a beginning at coding as well! You don't have to be an expert. Hour of Code supports the use of computers, phones, and tablets. They also have a lot of activities that are "unplugged", meaning no technology is necessary.
Down below you will see a few different buttons. These buttons will all take you to different coding activities and sites that happen to be some of my favorites. I encourage you to take some time to explore these with your student and learn a little computer science together.
